The summer has been very hot, almost too hot to adventure. Except for today. The rain stopped and so out we went. This adventure was full of typical Feldy finds.
Our first stop took us to the Yough River Lake in search of the Somerfeild Bridge. As history tells us, they dammed up the river causing the town of Somerfield to be submerged under water and never to be heard of again. But, in recent years, when the river is very low, very low, the bridge is unveiled. We drove this beautiful route to see the Yough, but it was not low and we saw nothing. However, I could have sworn I saw what looked like a brown structure under the water from where we stood at the boat ramp. Turns out, upon looking at Google Earth, it was it, under the water. Pretty freaking cool..
We walked around the river, threw rocks to see the depth and then headed onward.
It was when the adventure began. Not a half mile from the river we found our abandoned site of the day. What looked like an old restaurant stood, walks partially crumbled, roof gone. We circled the location, posed, took lots of pictures and really marveled in the old sign.
We began driving again and decided to head to Mt. Davis, which is the highest peak in Pennsylvania. The location is beautiful and full of all sorts of industrial history and local folklore. We hiked the trails and checked out the rocks. We found the fire tower and climbed to the top. What a view!!! Trees, mountains and huge storm clouds.
A hasty exit brought us down to solid land and after several miles through country roads we ended up , literally right next to the Somerset area windmills. A quick left brought us face to face with these majestic manmade miracles. Awestruck, excited, stoked...you name it. We felt it. After a few images and a serious downpour we drove the country roads home. It has been a while, it felt good to be back. Stay tuned, August won't disappoint!!!
PS, for those following the tally on peeing in my pants from my husband's humor...almost this time, but at the Pirates game this week he won, I lost!
