We drove from home to the Somerset area. I had never gotten off at that exit so I always love a good new town drive. After a short drive we came upon this ball field. And although I will not disclose the exact location, that we used Google maps to find it and it was not all that easy, but also not all that hard. We parked, got out, did a quick porta potty break and were off through the woods. Mr. Man is so good with the GPS and maps, and so we just followed his incredible lead. At first we were on a path, a trail, and so we thought it was going to be a breeze. But, that breeze took a turn, into the woods and down a rather steep hill, cliff side aas is was named by our brave leader.
But then, right at the bottom, we were in trolley car heaven. It was AMAZEBALLS! I will let the pictures do the magic but let me try to paint a picture with just words - because no sentences are needed lines and lines of old cars, rusted, in all sorts of disrepair, windshield wipers still present, routes still found inside, seats still in tact, lamps missing, cracked, glass everywhere, floors ripped up. There were NJ trains, Boston T cars, Amtrak trains, PATransit trolleys, streetcars galore. There were yellow, green, red ones. Blues one took the cake and the most were from the T and were green. Little girl took her own lead, climbing in, taking a seat, becoming Bus Driver #1! The concensus about this find was this: this is cool, really cool.
However, turns out, there was this photo group going on at the area and well it was a pricey fee to be there and we were not on the list. A gentleman who was very kind asked us to leave, but not before we helped out a woman who was traveling to Pittsburgh later that day from way south. We hiked the tracks the way back to our point of entry and up the steepest hill I have climbed. Huffing and puffing, sweaty and covered with dirt, we arrived at our car with smiles and squeals of delight. I will not lie, I jumped for joy over my find!! This adventure is definitely the icing on the top tier of our adventure cake. Explore on!
