It has been a while, too long. But, the weather has finally broken and the air is cooler and crisp. Leaves are beginning to fall and so I was starting to itch. Time to hop into the Blue Sasquatch and head out to find something. Needless to say I was thrilled. Backpack ready, snacks set and cold drinks on the cup holders and we were off.
The ride into Ohio was normal, pretty lame until Mussels from the Shell came on. See I thought is was Muscles for Michelle and this perpetuated a debate, in which I lost, but began a game of "what do you think the lyrics really are?" Sounds silly, it was and I laughed until I almost peed myself.
We arrived at our first stop, Brandywine Falls and the Champion Electric ruins. The falls were amazing, towering above a rocky ravine. The sound of the falls is always so soothing. The ruins rest right at the top of the falls and we actually almost passed by them. Nothing too amazing, but interesting nonetheless and a great spot for Little Girl to stretch her legs and climb a little. The spot was crawling with other folks, so we came, we saw, we photographed a sassy pose and then made a quick exit to see something a little less know .
Off to Akron and the Ribber Bowl. Once home to the Zips, this football stadium now sits empty. We had the place all to ourselves , a little different than the 110,000 we usually join at Beaver Stadium. We were able to walk right in, walk down the stairs and into the field. Mass amounts of bleachers were off to one side right under the Rubber Bowl sign almost like dune fencing at the beach after a major storm.. Paint peeled, numbers slightly faded, but still the feel of college game day was in the air.
The field was partially ripped up, favorite numbers peeled right out of the turf leaving a shadow of themselves in a bright green field of fake grass. Glass, toilet porcelain and metal littered the ground. Little Girl and Big Man both ventured underneath as I just stood and photographed the entrance and the neighboring airport, getting a view of the Good Year Blimp hanger (cool)!!!
There was a climb up to the press box, but no entry. Then the long hike up and out. I stood on the tallest wall and realized how excited young coeds were to enter these walls. Now, no cheers for the Zips, just the buzz of prop planes and birds chirping. Onward.
Another hour or so home and we stumbled into our little home weary, a little sunburnt and ready to kick off adventure season. Look out abandoned world, the UrbexFeldy's have returned!!!
