Sometimes when the weekend comes, you get get so wrapped up in all the crap you have to do to make up for the week prior and get set for the week ahead, there is no room to get out there and explore. That was how we assumed this weekend was going to be. Car things, house things, , appointments, a run to the Depot. All of it had to be done today. However, when the microwave broke and we had to pick up a new one from Cannonsburg, PA, we set out on what would end up being a small , yet highly fun, adventure.
So, off we went. The drive was lovely, minus all the traffic due to detours, but it actually took us through the Wabash Tunnel. I had never been through there, and PS that was a score!!! After the ebay transaction, we set forth home. On the way, we passed, what I thought, looked like an abandoned mill. My husband disagreed, so we set forth to find out more. There was limited access at one end,but the other end offered what had to be one of the most amazing looking entries I have ever seen. I am sad to say, I got two shots off before I was approached by a fine looking gentleman asking me to leave. I will say thing - nowhere that we were said No Trespassing or Do Not Enter or even Private Property. I Just wanted to take some more shots of the iron bars, but alas, I was gently persuaded to leave.
Having a disappointed wife in the front seat, and a daughter the "didn't even get to see ANYTHING" in the back, we set out for yet another spot.
My husband took us to a closed up mine. We hiked a small hill and there, under tons of brown leaves and twigs, rocks and even a small waterfall, was the entrance to a mine. It was all bricked up, but we knocked and we tried to climb up to the top to see in. Nothing, but yet so cool. It was just right there, int he middle of the burbs. I wondered how many residents in the area even knew these two amazing spots were right in their own backyards?
We finished the day with a visit to my husband's elementary school - and a peek inside his own Kindergarten room. A little fun on the playground made for lots of laughs and a good time had by all. So today wasn't one of our "Planned" adventures and it wasn't the find of the century - but we were together and we had fun so it was a successful weekend after all.
