Today was amazing, you know why? We did so many new things and saw so many different beautiful and interesting parts of our country and that is really what road tripping is all about. It is Easter, and we were ready to be risen to new heights. So, we headed to Second Mesa which is the Hopi Reservation. We had a wonderful tour guide named Evelyn who gave us a great tour of the Reservation. We got to see a local potter and see how she makes her own clay and paints and brushes. Her work was amazing. We then took a long, scenic drive through the area and ended up at an amphitheater type place where we saw hundreds of ancient petroglyphs. They were estimated at about 8000 years old. They displayed animals, people, the elements, even maps of the area. We hiked up and down, around tumble weeds got dusty and had a blast.
We dropped the parental units off at the hotel and then headed East to the Petrified Forest/ Painted Desert National Parks. I am going to let the pictures do the talking but I will say this... If you are ever in the area go here. There are so many places. To just get out of the car and e plots. The first half had tons of petrified wood, some so big you could walk across it for over 100 steps. The colors were amazing and the science behind it is incredible. At one point we even saw some wood being uncovered from the elements, part of he log sticking out and revealing it hidden mysteries.
The Painted Desert revealed blues and greys in the beginning of the park, only to reveal reds in the back side. We pulled off at one of the points only to reveal o e of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen. And not only did we get to see some beautiful things, but we saw the Pueblo ruins, which is abandoned!!! Yeah!!! And...not to be lost in the shuffle, we saw the Route 66 marker which showed us where the road once was and no longer lies. They did, however, keep the poles with no wires to show the route. The sun was perfect, the land capturing his light offering us a beautiful view of Mother Earth. Thanks to the President who declared this land so precious that all generations will be able to marvel in its beauty. Make sure you are one of them.
