So let me tell you about our day today. We are driving on Labor Day weekend to visit friends. Of course, I cannot road trip without finding something that is abandoned. So with our friend David in tow we decided to head out to Chippewa Lake in Ohio.
Upon arriving we saw that there was really no way into the park. I got out to take some pictures through the gate and everyone else got out to stretch their legs. A woman approached us. She had the same hair as my mom. And well a conversation was struck up between David and said wonderful woman. I convinced my own man to go over to continue the conversation as well. She was smoking so I told him to go over with a cigarette to continue the conversation. Smokers ️ love smokers. Next words were something like...come on, I can get you in. And so we were in!!!!
We walked around the entire park. First highlight, a frog. Frogs are cool when you are five and 42. There was so much to see yet so much of it was destroyed. I think we saw the ballroom. I think we saw some concession stands. I do know that we saw an amazingly wonderfully preserved ferris wheels with vines of vy creating its home along the steel. The little dipper was hard-to-find yet once we found it it was in perfect condition. Little girl climbed up on The track and walked until there was no track. Trees grew in between track. We found all the mechanisms of function. Though rusted and in a serious state of disrepair it was beautiful.
The way out was hot and sticky and rushed because well I got nervous since I heard a dog barking and people yelling. Nervousness set in. But we did find old cars and what I thought looked like the cars from a turtle ride. Lots of trees and growth greeted our departure and as I looked back I couldn't help but wonder how long Chippewa would stand and how many lucky folk would get to explore this blast from the past. We are but four who now can imagine the splendor of this lakeside resort. I could almost hear the carnival music humming from the still standing speaker poles. As our summer ends as so many Chippewa Lake summers it seems fitting for our little family's memory bank!!!
The next day on the way home we went on a covered bridge tour in Ohio. We saw three really cool and different bridges. I am the only one in my family a fan of covered bridges, but we all got something out of it. Whether it was walking through water, observing fish and crayfish, skipping stones, throwing rocks or checking out the bridges, we all had fun. And so our summer of adventure has ended and we sure hope you enjoyed all our explorations.
ON TO AUTUMN!!!
