Bryce Canyon was another one of our Utah National Park stops. I was so excited to get there. I have to say though - the whole day was a little chaotic, so although Bryce was absolutely breathtaking, the day was crazy.
To begin with, we had a lot of traveling and car time and we had a really tough time finding a place to eat. So when we got there, we were kind of living off of rest stop grub. PS - note to self - and you - pick up some snacks like nuts, granola bars, fruits when you can find them. Then it was a little rainy, which never adds to the great outdoor feeling.
However, we pulled up to the park and no one was there. No one was at the Visitor's Center and we literally saw one other person in the park. It was like Bryce Canyon was in a time warp. We had the place to ourselves.
We drove a bit to see the beautiful sights. My oh my, it is really pretty. The colors, the rocks, the majesty. Thank you, President Roosevelt for the idea of National Parks. When we got out of the car to see the natural bridge I said, "This is so pretty I think I just peed in my pants." It was mouth open wide beauty. And the little one loved it too. All her favorite colors, snow (we made a snowman) and rocks. We found a heart in the rocks. Could it get better? Yes sir!!! She traversed benches and walls and jumped off things like a dare devil. And all the while, as she laughed, yee hawed and had a grand ole time, I was Facetimeing my dad who has cancer and will probably never make it to Bryce. I actually cried when he saw this wonder. He was in utter amazement and I was too for giving him this close encounter of the natural kind.
And yet, we thought the adventure was over. Not even close. While exiting the park we encountered some serious wildlife. Several deer were passing the road and these two awesomely HUGE ravens were just perched on a log. We got out and they just sat there as if to say," This is my home, welcome. Please protect it for me and others that will come in centuries ahead." It was so freaking cool.
And as we passed by the natural bridge on our way out, little girl asked if we could pull over again just to get one last look. Ask to see nature again, yes we can! And so we both got out, raced to the edge, looked, marveled, smiled, laughed and ran right back to our warm car. Not your typical Bryce adventure, but perfect in our books.
