Texas to New Mexico
Today was the beginning of our epic Wildwest adventure. We flew out bright and early this morning, running a little bit late but definitely not missing our second plane. When we finally got to El Paso Texas, we were rip roaring ready to go! After renting the car we began to drive. But then my husband the big guy decided he was going to pull over because he thought he saw something from the air when we were flying into town. So using his trusty Google maps he mapped out our route in the air and lo and behold right there in the middle of the Texas desert was this circle and all of these little buildings surrounding it. So using Google again we mapped out a course and literally headed off Road, miles and miles and miles of dirt roads until we met this circular area. I am really not quite sure what we saw. There were burned out cars iand this huge walled rock circle and then these other small buildings that looked like yurts or camps but they looked newer but they were obviously old and they were definitely abandoned. We just walked around all by ourselves, there was absolutely nobody out there but us. It was Texas!
After our fill of Texas we continued our drive into New Mexico. It being Christmas day today we tried several locations but all of them were closed. We wanted to try to see the fort Seldon ruins but because it is a national monument it was closed. However I guess fort Selden was once a hopping town because outside of the town we found several buildings that were abandoned. It included a general store and gas station. They were pretty gosh darn cool.
On that note, with about 12 hours of travel under our belts, we decided it was time to check into our motel. I do say MO TEL, Motel! This is straight out of what I would think of if I was traveling route 66. It is absolutely awesome! Tomorrow we head on further up north traveling all the way through New Mexico. I will fill you in as we go north. The journey is just getting started!!!
