Today, was an absolutely stunningly beautiful day. Close to noon we headed out traveling like we were going up to Penn State. However we turned left far for our college day stop and headed to a place called Wehrum. We were looking for coal mine ruins, but weren't able to find them. I think if we would've followed the ghost town trail, we would've been able to see more ruins. However the area was full of off-road trails that we were able to venture around. Up and down, around and around, we bumped all over the place. We never found those ruins, however we did find some other things. We found some ruins of a very large stone structure deep in the woods. We also found remnants of a 19th-century cemetery called the old Saint Paul and Peter Orthodox cemetery. The only a few gravestones remained, they were clearly visible. Many were not an English anymore of them were of children that have adults. It is always a little upsetting to see a cemetery unattended and left for abandonment. However looking at the size of town, it wasn't much left.
our next stop took us back on route 22 heading back to Pittsburgh. We decided to take some state Game lands roads and bump around through the woods. We were looking for an old temple, however we will soon realize that all the fun roads on state property are closed off. So what we ended up finding just by looking off towards the side was in even earlier 19th century cemetery deep in the woods.
We had almost given up on finding anything else until we realized we were going to be heading right towards Penn Hills , Pennsylvania. There is an old abandoned cement factory right there. We got close to it, but I had read about possible squatters and a found dead body and with little girl we decided to just cell it a day. We are getting a sitter on one cold , dreary Sunday and going back for more.
