Today is my birthday. No better way to celebrate than by getting in the car and driving to Ohio to view some of the coolest things we've seen in a long time. We ended up meeting up with a couple that we had met last spring while in Ohio. This time we were on a mission to see some of the spots they had actually viewed in the past, but we had never seen. Our first spot was a steel mill, and although we tried very hard to sweet talk the security guard, we had no luck in gaining access to the mill. However we will be back, because there is one security guard who is a little too flexible and lenient when it comes to having folks come in and photograph. We ended up crossing over the tracks and going to another mill. This was a steel mill based upon the blueprints we found. We got to explore an amazing office with great 1970s 1980s technology. We also got to go inside the miil and the warehouse. Paint peeling, toilets cracked, desks overturned, files spewed all over the place, it was an abandoneers heaven.
After about an hour, we hopped back in the car and headed over to the St. Joseph's Hospital, abandoned since the mid-1990s. This place was really gutted and in really bad shape. First floor was very dark with a lot of things hanging from the ceiling. The second floor was much more open and well lit by natural light. Though we did not get to see as many things as we saw at an abandoned hospital in PA, we did get a feel for the size of this facility and how the layout was created. We saw a really cool open elevator shaft, some great exit signs hanging and dangling, and the most amazing peeling paint.
All in all, the day was great. The air was cool, the sun was suing, I was with my two favorite people and we got to hang with some cool folks that love doing what we love doing. And, well the abandoned stuff was quite the find!! Abandoned season has begun!!!
PS My husband got me a 1992 red Cabriolet for my birthday and I am thrilled as can be!!!!
