We are headed west in about two weeks, traveling through Texas, New Mexico, Utah, and Arizona. So this week and next are busy getting everything in order for our departure. So, this weekend, we were actually NOT planning on doing any exploring. However, we woke up on Saturday and it was 70 out and today was in the 60's so we figured we had to go and do something. I had done no research so we just decided to drive. We each picked a number and drove that many miles north, then that many miles East and then that many miles south. It took us to, well I have no freaking clue because we were literally somewhere in the middle of nowhere and that was fine with us.
We saw some amazing things. Lots of abandoned homes, barns and such, but all were on private property and either in really bad shape or just far too creepy to go into. We drove along roads that reminded us of past explorations, although we know we had never been there. We even drove a road that we swore would drive us to Camp Wanalikyurtitticaca (inside joke). It just opened up to a farm. We were enjoying the breeze through the windows and some good music on the radio and then we saw it. It was hidden in the woods and didn't look like much at first, but upon our stop and exploration , it turned out to be a pretty cool find. As an FYI, I didn;t charge the camera so the images only show half the exploration. Allow my descriptive words to paint an ending for you if you will.
We walked up and saw a crumbled building. Little Girl was unimpressed. To be honest I was too. It just looked like a cottage that had collapsed. But around the side we saw a water pump which was exciting and cool, for at least one of us (I won't say who though), Then around back we came upon a clean, safe opening. Inside it was definitely not a home. The foundation displayed remnants of heavy machinery use, large bolts and even valves. SOmeone must have placed wood where the floor was too thin, so we were able to walk inside and take a look around. Little Girl played tight rope walker on the planks, while we jumped in and out of recessed floor to check out pipes and valves. It was amazing. We have no idea what it was though, but it was cool.
The one side of the building was impassible. Too much of the building had collapsed in upon itself, making it unsafe. However, walking through a window, or whole in the wall (literally) made out exit super exciting. On the other side of the building was this great moss covered foundation. The sky was grey and the earth is brown and the green was just brilliant. I then walked up the hill a little as the Man and the CHild walked back to the car. I saw something that looked intriguing. About 100 feet up was a wall. Inside the wall was a large ditch and inside the ditch was machinery and old TV;s, thank you litterbugs, and it was not just a wall but a circle. The wall looked really old, so I am not sure how the three locations are intertwined, and since I have no idea where we were, I cannot even attempt to find out. So for now, and probably for all time, the spot we found is a true mystery, stumbled upon while driving , laughing and singing. Seems perfect for a Sunday Feld-day. It may be our last 2015 adventure in PA, and it was a good note to leave off on.
