Today we traveled an hour East to the Laurel Highlands to see the changing leaves. We had heard that this was peak time for this area, and so off we went. Little Girl napped the entire way there, leaving the two "adults" to chat, laugh, sing far too loudly and poorly and to have an overall lovely drive. Once there, the fun truly began.
See Mr. got a new/old car a couple months ago, a 1995 Pathfinder. And if I have to say so myself, it is AWESOME!! We have road tripped in it and have had some serious fun. But today, Blue Sasquatch, as she is so aptly named, was out for her first off roading adventure. Through narrow paths, up steep embankments, through creeks, five foot brush we went. All the while, I think my heart was beating loud enough for all to hear, but it was super fun. Lots of splashing, squeals and dirt EVERYWHERE. Best part, driving on this abandoned road, covered in weeds, some five to 8 feet high, hearing skeet shooting maybe 50 feet away and getting to the end of the road and finding a gate to "not let people in". Uhhhh, one on the other side might have been a nice thing, maybe.
However, it would not be one of our adventures if we did not see water or something abandoned or BOTH. Next stop, the abandoned Seven Springs Airport. A little hard to find, but easy enough to get to with the Blue Sasquatch, it was just a single jetway airport with a great overlook and a gem of a water find with these amazing rocks. We four wheeled up the embankment and got a great view of the changing leaves and the entire runway. They also had lots of Seven Springs Ski Resort retired equipment, ski lifts and mechanics, which were pretty cool to look at as well.
Next stop was Blue Hole. This is a special spot for my husband as he visits here every year with his friends. We just love the water, the colors, the trees and the drive. We actually found a picture he buried several years ago. It was faded and worn and hard to see, but it was his picture of him and his friends there at that spot from years ago. It was heartwarming.
The ride home was calm and beautiful. On our way through the mountains we actually came upon this cool wall which was the remaining element of a distillery (we saw the marker on the other side of the road.) We then stopped at a closed covered bridge and a couple other one lane bridges. Our last spot was strictly for Little Ma'am. We went to Caddy Shack and mini golfed until our faces hurt from laughing. And then to make the day even better, as a total surprise,Mr. Man bought one extra ticket, for me and and Little DareDevil to go on Go-Karts. Needless to say, I have never been in a go-kart and they were sooooo fun.
Today=perfect!!! I love Autumn! I love our adventures! I love life! Yeah for us!!!!
